Lauren R. Caplan | Senior Counsel, Lauren Caplan practices in the fields of investment management, clean energy finance and non-profit governance matters. Lauren represents institutional investors in the review and negotiation of U.S. and non-U.S. investments in private funds across all asset classes, and asset managers in the formation and operation of private investment funds. Lauren has experience structuring and advising on customized investment advisory relationships as well as building complicated investment platforms. In addition, as General Counsel of a company that provides financing for solar and energy efficiency upgrades in commercial properties, Lauren managed the structuring and negotiation of PACE project financings, advised on lines of credit and whole loan purchase facilities and advised states on draft PACE legislation and regulations. Lauren also has experience in a broad range of corporate matters including, corporate governance, employment, non-disclosure, vendor and other agreements.

Previously, Lauren was Assistant General Counsel of Commonfund, an investment manager with over $25 billion in assets under management. Lauren has been a practicing attorney since 2005 and was previously a corporate associate at Chadbourne & Parke in London and New York City. Lauren has written and spoken about responsible investing and the intersection of corporate social responsibility and the capital markets. Prior to her legal career, Lauren worked in the United States Senate and was director of a nonprofit organization that works with children and families to break the link between poverty and poor health.
